ribbons with ornaments of starlets

Braun-firnis

In this technique ribbons with ornaments of starlets, ribbons with word markings and areas of the background of the columns are made.

Such an ornament originates by stoving (annealling) a repeatedly spread linen oil on a copper metal plate. The oil in the heat of as much as 600 ºC darkens and a durable layer arises. Into it a decoration (pattern) is subsequently engraved, or writing - mostly by the help of stencils. In the places cleared of discharged oil a drifted amalgam takes hold and after evaporating of the mercury a gold layer arises, adjusted in the already mentioned way - polishing with a steel furnisher.

The Latin inscriptions are located on the shield sides. On the side with St Maurus there is the inscription:
+ ISTE SACER MAVRVS MARTIR
FUIT ATQUE SACERDOS+
+ MAVRUS C-
ELESTEM MERCAT SAN-
GVINE UESTEM
+ HOC UAS NOBILITAT QVEM CELI GLORIA DITAT

Saint Maurus was a martyr and a holy man.
He bought back his celestial cloak by his blood.
This case honours the man who rests in it, and is thus illuminated by the glory of the Heaven.

On the side with Christ is the inscription:
+ SVM QVOD ERAM NEC ERAM QVO-
D SVM MODO DICOR UTRVMQVE
+ SVM UITE
PORTVS SVM VERI LV-
MINIS ORTVS
+ SVM SOLUENS MORTIS DIRE QVE PERICVLA SORTIS

I am what I was (God) and I wasn't what I am (man). I may now say that I am this and I am that.
I am the port of life; I am a guide of true light.
I am the one who knows the mystery of death and fate.
